If you are planning to move to Italy for any reasons like employment, studies, business venture or personal reasons, there is an important step that you need to complete. It’s a certificate attestation from the Italian embassy! This stamp is needed on all Indian-issued documents that you wish to use in Italy. This includes all personal, educational, and business documents or certificates. Although an apostille is required for Italy, the government may also request an embassy attestation for visa processing. Find out more about the best Italian attestations services in India below.
There are 4 steps in the Italian attestation process that each document must undergo.
Notarization by a notary public is needed on some documents to make sure they are ready for the attestation process. This includes a marriage certificate, affidavits etc. The notary public checks your identity and makes sure that your document is original.
After notarization, you need to visit different government bodies depending on the type of document you want to attest.
Personal Documents like birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.
The State Home Department in your state will carry out this verification step.
Educational Documents like degree, diploma, etc.:
The State Human Resource Development (HRD) department takes the responsibility of verifying all academic documents and certificates.
Commercial Documents like invoices, company papers etc.
The Chamber of Commerce (CoC) in your area will directly verify your business-related documents. Note: Notarization can be skipped for business document attestation.
Send your application and validated documents to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in Delhi after all state-level verification has been completed. They will issue an MEA sticker or stamp and recheck all of your documents at the national level. You can only show your documents to the Italian embassy or consulate in India at this point.
Send your MEA-verified documents to the Italian embassy in India. After one last inspection, they will issue an attestation stamp if everything appears to be in order. Any document issued in India can now be used without restriction in Italy.

Thinking about starting or growing a business in Italy? You’ll need your key business documents—like export invoices, power of attorney, master data, and other paperwork—attested by the Italian Embassy in India. It’s not just a formality. This official stamp proves your documents are authentic, so Italian authorities will recognize them.
If you want to use your Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) in Italy, you have to get it stamped by the Italian Embassy. That stamp tells the Italian authorities your PCC is legit and that you have no criminal record. People usually need this for visas, work permits, long-term stays, or if they’re applying for residency.
Planning to study or work in Italy? The Italian Embassy must attest your educational documents—degrees, mark sheets, SSC, HSC, diplomas, you name it. This process confirms your qualifications are real. You’ll need it for student visas, job opportunities, or if you want to register as a professional in Italy.
Planning to move to Italy with your spouse? You’ll need to get your Indian marriage certificate attested by the Italian Embassy. Without this stamp, you can’t apply for spouse or family visas, get a residency permit, open a joint bank account, or even buy property together in Italy.
Thinking about getting married in Italy? You’ll have to prove you’re single. That means getting a Bachelorhood or Single Status Certificate, and it needs the embassy’s attestation. This stamp shows you’re free to marry and makes sure the marriage is valid under Italian law.
Need your birth certificate for something official in Italy—like a visa, school admission, or another process? The Italian Embassy has to attest it first. With their stamp, Italian authorities, schools, and other offices will recognize and accept your birth details without any issues.
